TTia Hellebaut sets new Belgian record at KBC indoor
At the KBC Indoor meeting on sunday february 26, the public witnessed some nice performances. Especially the Belgian record high
jump of Tia Hellebaut and the magnificent time of Kim Gevaert at the 60m were spectacular.
Tia Hellebaut jumped over the 1m96 with ease and in doing so, she improved the Belgian record of Natalja Jonckheere (ESC) of 1995 with
1cm. In the supporting act Frederik Lemmens (AVT) succeeded in breaking a Belgian record fot the fourth time. After the 200m, 400m
and long jump he now broke a record in the 60m. He ended 2nd after Simon Goffaux (CABW) in 7"17 and herewith improves the
Belgian record of 2000, with 5 hundreds of a second. |

2 Belgian records at the Belgian Championship Indoor
At the Belgian Championship Indoor in Ghent, Tia Hellebaut put the cherry on the pie. The 27-year old Bloso athlete qualified with 1m92
fot the WC Indoor high jump and 5 minutes later rivalled the national record long jump that is set at 6m36 by Sandrine Hennart.
One of the Jacques Borlée sons, Kevin, hardly 17 years old, brought the national record with the juniors of Kjell Provost from
47"70 to 47"54. In the finals, he came running right behind Cédric Van Branteghem (46"93) and rushed past him in
the final metres. Not only seemed his 46"87 to be an new Belgian Junior record, but the all times 4th best time. The
succession of Cédric seems to be assured! |

USA participate at the Partena Cup of Flanders
Somewhat later than the other countries, the USA enrolled for the Partena Cup of Flanders (28-30 April). The Americans come to Ghent
with no less than 50 gymnasts and their coaches. Meanwhile, the number of participants at the World Cup competition has risen to
over 900. That is far more than the 650 gymnasts that were originally expected. That makes the Partena Cup of Flanders the
second biggest World tournament in tumbling / trampoline, after the World championships / IAGC. |

Indoor meetings Ghent and Liévin cooperate
Plans exist to merge the international indoor meetings of Ghent and Liévin. Just as in Ghent, a yearly indoor meeting takes place in Liévin,
situated in the North of France. However not in 2007. The French indoor stadium is being broken down and entirely reconstructed and
modernised. The works will last one year. Therefore Liévin sought to cooperate with Bercy (Paris) and also with Luxembourg, but
eventually the cooperation deal was settled with Ghent.
"It is intended to join both budgets and to organise every year an indoor meeting in alternately Liévin and Ghent. Al together this
will cost 800.000 euro whereas the cost for Ghent is now only 200.000 euro”, says Christophe Impens. "But the years there
is no international meeting in Ghent, we are looking for an alternative meeting between different regions. Flanders could for
example compete with Catalonia, Beieren,... At a smaller scale but therefore not less attractive. But this will only be in 2008 at the
soonest” says Wilfried Meert. |
